Production Method of Spherical Aluminum Nitride (AlN) Granule
Spray Drying Method:A solution containing aluminum – and nitrogen – bearing precursors, such as aluminum salts and nitrogen – containing organic compounds, is prepared. This solution is atomized into fine droplets using a spray nozzle. As the droplets are sprayed into a hot chamber (usually at temperatures around 200 – 400°C), the solvent rapidly evaporates. The remaining solid precursors undergo chemical reactions and agglomerate to form spherical AlN granules. Afterward, the granules are further heat – treated in a nitrogen atmosphere at 1500 – 1800°C to enhance their crystallinity and purity.
Gas – Atomization Method:Molten aluminum nitride, obtained by melting high – purity AlN powder, is forced through a small orifice. Simultaneously, a high – velocity stream of an inert gas, like nitrogen, is directed at the molten stream. The intense shearing force of the gas breaks the molten AlN into tiny droplets. These droplets cool and solidify rapidly in the gas – filled chamber, resulting in spherical AlN granules. The size of the granules can be controlled by adjusting parameters such as the melt temperature, gas velocity, and orifice diameter.
Sol – Gel and Template – Assisted Method:A sol – gel process is first carried out using aluminum and nitrogen precursors to form a gel. Then, spherical templates, such as polymer microspheres, are added to the gel. The gel coats the templates. After drying, the composite is heated in a nitrogen atmosphere. The polymer templates burn off, leaving behind spherical voids filled with AlN. Further heat treatment at elevated temperatures refines the structure and forms spherical AlN granules.
