SiC is synthesized at high temperature, and most of its products are prepared or used at high temperature. If only rough calculation is made, the average thermal expansion coefficient of silicon carbide can be 4.4 within the range of 25~1400 ℃ × 10-6/℃。 The measurement results of the thermal expansion coefficient of SiC show that its value is much smaller than that of other abrasives and high temperature materials. For example, the thermal expansion coefficient of corundum can be as high as (7~8) × 10-6/℃。 The thermal conductivity of SiC is very high, which is another important feature of SiC physical properties. Its thermal conductivity is much larger than that of other refractories and abrasives, about 4 times that of corundum. Therefore, the low thermal expansion coefficient and high thermal conductivity of SiC make its products subject to less thermal stress during heating and cooling, which is the reason why SiC ceramics have particularly good thermal shock resistance.
