(Bismuth Oxide Powder)
Bismuth oxide powder is used for the manufacture of ceramic dielectric capacitors and other electronic ceramic materials. It also serves as an analytic reagent. This material can be found as pellets, pieces, tablets, and sputtering targets.
There are two types of bismuth oxide, a-type and b-type. The a-type is a yellow monoclinic crystal and has a melting point of 825 degC. It is easily reduced to metallic bismuth by hydrogen or hydrocarbons.
Compared with a-type, b-type has a cubic crystal system and is soluble in acidic solutions. Both of these properties make b-type an ideal compound for making solid oxide fuel cell electrolytes.
Bismuth trioxide is a yellow solid. It occurs naturally as a mineral called bismite. In the process of manufacture, it is carefully packaged and tagged for easy identification.
Bi2O3 is a promising candidate as a radiopacifier in mineral trioxide aggregates. It possesses a high temperature metastable face-centered cubic d phase which can be used as an ionic conductor. These perovskite structured oxides are also cathodes in oxygen generation systems and solid oxide fuel cells. They offer a vast range of potential for a novel thermoelectric material.
The use of micron-bismuth oxide powder is expected to grow due to the growing number of applications in the field of solid oxide fuel cells. Additionally, this material can be used in the manufacture of oxygen sensors, ceramic capacitors, and high purity oxygen generators.
Micron-bismuth oxide powder is a good candidate for use as an oxygen sensor because of its oxygen ion conductivity. However, it is important to ensure that the product is stored in a dry and sealed environment. Also, it should be avoided to apply excessive pressure or undergo a heavy pressing process.
